Weekly Jazz - July Series | The Cooler

Improvised Music Company have just announced the lineup for July's weekly Jazz series. The sessions are live at The Cooler every Thursday evening. Entrance via 12 Mary's Abbey, Smithfield, Dublin 7, D07 XR70.



Tommy Halferty's Whirlpool plays Miles Davis

Throughout his rich and varied career, Tommy Halferty’s signature guitar sound, tonally heavy, brimming with juicy bebop lines and fat chordal arrangements, has been instrumental in shaping the sound of Irish jazz. Tommy's Whirlpool Group features an array of luminous Irish players, including Darragh O'Kelly on keys, Cormac O'Brien on bass, and Brendan Doherty on drums, bringing a wealth of musicality to their take on Davis' seminal record.


Cooks But We're Chefs

Cooks But We’re Chefs is a 7-piece band from Dublin and Kerry. Their sound encapsulates elements of house, funk, jazz, soul and hip-hop. The trio of vocalists backed by brass, dancey beats highlights their unique musical blend.

Sasha Berliner is a musician, composer, producer, and band leader from San Francisco, CA.

For her first visit to The Cooler, we're kicking off with a live podcast recording with Irish Women in Jazz, hosted by Jeni McMahon. Hear about Sasha's artistic approach and life as a musician on the New York scene.


Following the conversation, Sasha will perform a solo set of her own compositions and arrangements, an intimate show of solo vibraphone in the quiet space of The Cooler.


Dunne & Hernandez

Dermot Dunne's accordion brings both poise and playfulness to the mix, and Ariel Hernandez' superb guitar lines sit beneath a voice that could only have been born beneath a southern star.The Irish Times

Many concert-goers will remember the duo of Argentinian guitarist and singer Ariel Hernandez with Irish accordionist Dermot Dunne. Between 2003-2010, the pair brought the excitement and passion of Latin music to Irish audiences from the National Concert Hall to Belfast Opera House, Vicar Street, Farmleigh House, the Bray Jazz Festival, Dún Laoghaire Festival of World Cultures and beyond.
