As part of Spring Forward Festival 2023 Rapunzel is coming to The Depot April 27th.
Mélissa Guex’s Rapunzel trumpets the need to separate the static destiny of a woman from that of her adventurous and courageous prince:
A princess waiting for a prince so she can start living. This is an archetypal narrative that still colours education and the imagination. By summoning the figure of the princess, Mélissa Guex subverts its iconic dimension: the archetype has become modelling clay and is shown to the audience as a creature worn down by loneliness and expectation.
Neither a damsel in distress nor a delicate virgin, Rapunzel delivers a trashy punk one-woman show and attacks the female clichés anchored in our collective Western imagination.
Rapunzel is part of Spring Forward Festival, taking place in Dublin, from Thursday 27 to Saturday 29 April. Bringing together 21 inspiring dance makers from around Europe.
