The Depot Sessions Returned to The Complex for a Spectacular Second Edition
After a resounding success with its inaugural event, The Depot Sessions at The Complex returned on October 17th, 2024. Described by Totally Dublin as “one of the most stimulating venues in the city,” The Complex once again opened its doors to music enthusiasts for a night that promised—and delivered an even more electrifying atmosphere than the first.
The first edition of The Depot Sessions, held earlier in the year, had left audiences buzzing with excitement. According to The Goo magazine, the event had been a “brilliant showcase of great new Irish music,” with standout performances by Wine Mom, Fizzy Orange, SexyTadhg, Cruel Sister, Squarehead, and Really Good Time. Reviews praised the diverse lineup, noting the range from “energetic and slow-paced emotional songs” to “groovy, exploding rock tunes,” making it clear that The Depot Sessions quickly became a must-attend event in Dublin’s music scene.
Building on this success, the second edition featured performances by three of Ireland's most talked-about bands: BIG LOVE, CABL, and CHERYM. BIG LOVE had been making waves in the Irish music scene with their intense alternative rock sound. Since the release of their debut single, Lily, in 2021, they had earned a reputation for delivering high-energy live shows that were both emotionally charged and musically intricate. Their release Is It Over Yet further solidified their status as a band on the rise, earning them spots at major festivals and critical acclaim.
CABL (pronounced Cable) offered a unique blend of shoegaze, pop, emo, nu metal, and folk, drawing comparisons to bands like Just Mustard and Big Thief. Known for their introspective lyrics and carefully orchestrated noise, CABL quickly became a favourite on the live circuit, with sold-out headline shows and support slots alongside some of the most exciting acts in the country.
The indie-punk outfit CHERYM were among the new school of queer rockers who had taken the world by storm. Beginning as a kick-back against the boys-club local scene, their relentless enthusiasm and boundless energy encapsulated who they were both personally and as a ferocious live act. As well as touring across the UK and Europe as headliners, CHERYM had previously supported Nova Twins, Enter Shikari, The Beths, Sleeping with Sirens, and Bob Vylan, to name a few. They had also performed at festivals including 2000 Trees, The Great Escape, SXSW, and Truck Festival, and were slated to play Sziget Festival, Greenbelt Festival, and to open the main stage at 2000 Trees. Their authenticity shone through in their songwriting, connecting deeply with listeners who recognised their own experiences in the band’s music. Fans of Blink-182, Dream Wife, or Bikini Kill would have instantly resonated with CHERYM’s sound.
Tickets for The Depot Sessions were priced at €15 + fees and sold quickly, fuelled by the buzz around the lineup. It was another unforgettable night of exceptional live music at The Complex, further cementing The Depot Sessions as a standout fixture in Dublin’s vibrant cultural scene.
