The Complex welcomes Anna Doran's Roots in Every Room, as part of Dublin Fringe Festival, 2025.
Roots in Every Room is presented by SoFFt Productions. It is written and performed by Anna D. In collaboration with Greg Purcell and Peter Power. Directed by Eftychia Spyridaki.
This powerful live performance weaves together spoken word poetry, film, and sound to tell a moving story of healing and ancestral reckoning.
The title is drawn from the final dream Anna’s grandmother had before passing. In it, she saw a massive tree growing through the center of Anna’s house, its roots spreading into every room. It stands in stark contrast to her own mother’s recurring dream of wandering through her home, discovering empty, unfamiliar, hidden rooms.
That dream has come to represent Anna’s deep need to heal her maternal line reclaiming ancestral feminine strength and realizing the silenced potential of the women who came before her. Roots in Every Room is born from this need. A bold attempt to break generational cycles. A raw, unapologetic act of self-expression. A release of the dark feminine, rising to confront and redress the long-standing imbalance of masculine dominance. It is one woman’s intimate reckoning with the emotional legacies she has inherited—and her radical, generous offering of hope.
