Live on the set of The Rose Tattoo in The Complex.  

The Rose Tattoo by Tennesee Williams is presented by The Complex 9–20 May 2023, the first of The Complex's own theatre productions in a new venue The Depot. The Complex reawakens Tennessee William’s classic play The Rose Tattoo, in a transformative new translation by Vanessa Fielding and Catherine Joyce, resetting William’s play into a modern Irish Traveller context.  

Paddy Keenan, himself of a traveller family steeped in traditional music, founding member of the legendary Bothy Band, and one of the greatest living exponents of the uilleann pipes today, is creating the music for The Complex's production of The Rose Tattoo by Tennessee Williams, playing live on set each night. (Tickets here!) Paddy will join the cast to play live as part of each performance on the immersive set designed by the celebrated designer Sabine Dargent. Dargent takes advantage of the scope available in The Depot space at The Complex to recreate an abstract experience of a halting site.  

On Sunday 14 May the play takes a break and Keenan plays live on the set in The Depot, 7PM, with the amazing piper Cyril O'Donoghue  (Fisher Street, Damp in the Attic), Colleen Shanks (The Nashville Celts, Bill Grogran's Goat, Big Fun) and Eamonn de Barra (musician of the Year 2000, Slide).  Before the gig at 5pm Conversations About The Rose Tattoo takes place in The Depot. Tickets €2. The forum will have speakers and a chair and time for questions from the audience. The conversation event will end at 6:30pm. 

There will be a food truck on the terrace of 12 Mary's Abbey serving food after the forum and before Paddy Keenan Live.
